Last Thursday the Telenet technician said the Internet/phone/TV combination would work on Monday "the very latest".
Well?
Today's Monday. And guess what: it's not working. Now, that's a surprise, isn't it?
I was in a meeting this morning when Gunther, one of our landlords, called.
Gunther: There is someone from Telenet
who wants to make an installation, but
nobody's home...
Of course nobody's home... one, because Telenet didn't tell me that someone would come and two, because they told me that the connection for the missing cable signal is done in the street and doesn't require someone to be home!
I gave Gunther permission to let the guy in. I didn't want to risk another 4 weeks of waiting until some sucker shows up to tell me things don't work. Still, after my meeting I drove home to check the status, just to find out nothing was working.
Gunther told me that there was some mistake with the connection, the installation or with the signal or whatever - and maybe I don't want to bother anymore. I called Telenet and didn't even try to kindly speak Flemish. Instead I had an avalanche of anglophile annoyance running over the next best agent I got on the line.
Leo: So, you guys are not able
to make this connection now for
10 weeks...
Agent: I see there's a problem
and we need someone to bring a
special equipment...
Leo: So this is tomorrow then!
Agent: I don't know when they
come. We don't have planning for this...
Leo: You don't have planning
for this?!
Agent: No. But they should
come this week.
Leo: This week? Do you realize
that it will take Belgacom the very same
time to give me what I want, while you
most likely just come back to me with
more problems?
Agent: ... but they should come
by Wednesday, though I am not sure
about it because of the weather.
Leo: Okay. And if they don't
come on Wednesday, you send someone
to pick up all the stuff you have installed
and I get my Internet from someone else?
Agent: Erg...
So Wednesday it is. Fine!
Something's not adding up here, though, and I told the agent: the technician on Thursday called in the problem, telling me it will be fixed latest today. Someone shows up today - though the great planners at Telenet don't know about it - and tells my landlord there's a problem with the connections in the cellar.
So likely the agent didn't know about the most recent status when I called, right? Thus, while he was still waiting for feedback from the guy who came to our place today, most likely something else is fucked up (i.e. Thursday's technician probably connected the wrong cable in the cellar with our apartment) and this certainly won't be fixed until they realize this... whenever.
I better call again tomorrow...
I at least secured all the discounts I had been promised so far and the agent confirmed they would show up on the first bills. Given how long all of this took til now, however, it might be still a while before I see an actual bill from Telenet.
Edit 8:04 pm
Gunther was here to sign off on the transfer of the water contract and he said he might know a guy who can check the cables in the cellar and make the connection to the right one maybe tomorrow already. At this stage I am willing to make a pact with the devil (i.e. some guy, Belgacom, ...) if this gives me access to the web. I hope this might be the shortcut indeed to get this Internet misery fixed...

In my book this runs under "Consistently not meeting expectations" and these folks need to be on a PIP now (in case you need additional documentation), or be fired right away.
How hard can it be to set up Internet access? 10 weeks is clearly too long. Even in a backwater country like California they manage to do this within a couple weeks.
