One year ago, I started to write a regular entry every Friday, which reviewed the number one song (or a top 10 song) from the German charts.
This was a change versus the weekly reviews on Tuesdays in the previous year, where I simply picked songs which I had discovered somewhere or which I felt like sharing. Taking songs from the charts sounded like a good idea, back then, especially because this would make me review also songs I normally would not touch with a trash grabber.
And now, quite honestly, I've had it!
I used to enjoy writing these weekly reviews, because they are a means of measuring how much I have written on my blog the previous week, which can be also a motivation to write more if there are only a few entries between two reviews.
After two years of writing song reviews and one year of digging through the German charts, however, I am going to take a break from this.
Apart from having to endure torture when it comes to some songs that blabber through the charts, there is only so much you can write before you are going to repeat yourself. While I especially took pride in killing the really bad tunes (which I naturally picked for that purpose only), even this becomes old after a year.
So, yes, let's make an end to this.
Maybe I will start a new regular song review some time in the future, but for now I am going to have my ears fixed and will take it easy.
And after this long introduction, let's have a look at the new number one in the German charts:
I Like jumped to the top of the charts for probably two reasons: Hilson's new single was released with the soundtrack of German movie Zweiohrküken, which likewise was at the top of the box office charts (until Avatar hit the theaters). And then, the song is actually a nicely composed tune, which I admit quite foreseeably matches the likes of the mainstream, but without getting on my nerves.
That's something already.
Given success patterns and also as a valid approach, Keri Hilson clearly tries to jump the Rihanna bandwagon. To obvious are the overlaps in appearance and how she acts in front of the camera. And she is doing it not too bad, easily beating Rihanna's latest release Russian Roulette on the way.
Nice.
And after all, having forced myself through many painful rubbish songs this year, here we have a conciliatory last song review from the German charts...
