German #10: Emiliana Torrini "Jungle Drum"

Let's not mention #1.

More interesting is Emiliana Torrini's Jungle Drum.

In a way I feel reminded of Nancy Sinatra's These Boots Are Made For Walking, which might be due to the intentionally flat sound of Jungle Drum, which gives the impression of a Lofi recording. The vocal similarities do the rest...

The song is alright, but the reason I picked it is the obvious clumsiness of the video, which looks more like something a group of aspiring students would pull together. This goes nicely with Torrini's insecureness in front of the camera and her rather awkward moves.

But you know what? - this comes across refreshing and different in today's perfectly timed music mainstream, where everything is ironed out and dusted over with thick layers of make-up and fast cuts and armies of choreographers, caterers, directors and stagehands.

Refreshing.
Not great, but refreshing.
But that's maybe more worth than it sounds like...
