German #1: Kate Perry "Hot N Cold"

Kate Perry had hit the charts already earlier with her provocative single I Kissed A Girl, which made it also to one of last year's Tunes of the Week.

Hot N Cold is a very similar type of song, though it clearly is an overall weaker single. This is simply because it's missing the attention grabbing lyrics of the chorus. Latest since Madonna we know that a little edge of naughtiness makes a big difference in how we perceive a performance (and the other video showed more legs and bustiers than this one).

And let's face it: two girls kissing are anytime more interesting than an 80's style smoothy who, I presume, only realizes that he is gay at the day of the wedding. The slimey dude is fleeing his soon to be wife and her bridal posse. In the end there is no escape, though, and we can assume he will imagine hairy construction workers when they have sex.

Suits him right.
